Dry, warm weather expected across Mass. ahead of Friday rainfall

Another pleasant late-summer day is ahead for the Bay State on Wednesday, as an area of high pressure keeps temperatures seasonably warm and fends off precipitation.

Temperatures across Massachusetts should peak in the high 70s to low 80s, with an onshore wind keeping things slightly cooler along the coast. It will be significantly cooler in the evening, with temperatures dropping to the 50s or even 40s.

By Thursday, that area of high pressure will have shifted east and offshore. As a result, the Bay State can expect southerly winds and higher humidity. The humidity won’t be oppressive, but will still be notable given the conditions akin to early fall this week, National Weather Service forecasters wrote.

Temperatures on Thursday should remain in the 70s and 80s.

An elongated area of low pressure over much of the eastern part of the county will be the “primary driver of the weather through the weekend,” forecasters wrote.

With a moister airmass in place, disturbances moving through the area of low pressure should bring scattered rain showers to Massachusetts.

“Difficult to time exact periods of rainfall but generally anytime between Thursday night and Saturday night looks to feature a chance for rain,” forecasters wrote. That said, the best chance for rain is likely Thursday night into early Friday and Saturday afternoon or evening, forecasters added.

But there is only a small chance of thunderstorms and severe weather is unlikely.

Temperatures should reach the mid-80s on Saturday, but are expected to drop back to the low to mid-70s by Sunday, with a cold front bringing a much drier and cooler airmass.
