Dropping the mask of living with multiple sclerosis (Viewpoint)

The afternoon following the release of Taylor Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department,” I settled into my comfiest couch, ready to embark on a 31-song journey with pop’s biggest star. However, I didn’t expect I’d be left pondering how I, along with other multiple sclerosis patients, move through the world while wearing an “everything’s fine” mask, even when things are most definitely not fine.

The album’s 13th track, “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,” started with Swift singing about how those watching her perform onstage in glittery garb must’ve thought she was having “the time of her life.”
