Driver killed in single-car crash on Route 32 in Mass.

A driver was killed in a single-car crash on Route 32 in Monson Wednesday afternoon, according to police.

Police, firefighters and paramedics responded to the crash near 57 Strafford Road shortly after 2:50 p.m., Monson police said in a press release. The preliminary investigation indicates the car was traveling south at a high rate of speed when it crossed into the northbound lane. It then struck two trees and a utility pole.

The driver was taken by ambulance to Baystate Wing Hospital in Palmer, then airlifted to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield where they were declared dead, police said. The Hampden County District Attorney’s Office and the Massachusetts State Police accident reconstruction unit is still investigating the crash.

No further information, including the driver’s identity, has been released.
