Driver dies after car crashes into tree in Mass.

A man died over the weekend after the car he was driving crashed into a tree in Wellesley, according to police.

On Aug. 1, emergency services responded to a 911 call reporting a single-car crash on Forest Street shortly before 3:15 p.m., Wellesley police said in a press release. At the scene, they found that a car had veered off the road and hit a tree head-on.

The driver — the only person in the car at the time of the crash — was trapped in the car and had to be freed, police said. Paramedics and firefighters performed life-saving measures on the man before he was flown to a hospital for treatment. The man ultimately died of his injuries.

The preliminary investigation suggests the driver may have experienced a medical emergency prior to the crash that caused him to lose control of his car, police said. He then left the roadway and hit a tree on the east side of Forest Street.

The man’s identity is being withheld until his next of kin has been notified of his death. Wellesley police are investigating the crash.
