Drake Maye still working on throwing in inclement weather

FOXBOROUGH – Drake Maye had to navigate through rainy conditions the first few series in Tampa Bay against the Buccaneers.

His pinpoint accuracy was off. He missed Mack Hollins with several throws that sailed out of his hands and well over the receiver’s head.

During his weekly Monday appearance on WEEI, Maye was asked about adjusting to weather, and how it may have impacted him early on during the Patriots 28-23 win over the Buccaneers.

Maye started out completing just 2-of-7 passes while dealing with the rain. It seemed like once the rain stopped, Maye’s throws hit the spot. The Patriots quarterback acknowledged the issue.

“I have to make better throws in the rain,” Maye said. “I feel like I was still spinning it alright. I just have to make better throws on that first drive.”

He’s been practicing in the cold and rain in Foxborough the past few weeks.

Thursday night’s game against the New York Jets is expected to be cold. But no rain is in the forecast.

That could change over the course of the final seven games. He might have to deal with rain, snow, or a mix of the two. Whatever the conditions, Maye knows he has to be able to adjust.
