Drake Maye couldn’t watch.
When Andy Borregales trotted out to try to make a field goal that could give the Patriots’ their biggest win since before Maye arrived,” Maye was staring at a tablet.
“I couldn’t watch. It was just trust. Trust in him,” he said, smiling sheepishly. “I was looking down at the iPad at something I could have done on a run play in the last couple of plays.”
But the reaction by his teammates told him the 52-yard field goal by the rookie was good as the Patriots improved to 3-2.
Maye joked that he and Borregales should have been teammates sooner, before saluting the rookie’s moment.
“Back in the day, he committed to North Carolina out of high school and he flipped on us to Miami,” Maye said. “What a kick. Pressure. Ultimate pressure.”
Borregales laughed.
“Some people can’t watch.”
