Doing Dry January? Try these creative mocktails at The Ritz-Carlton in Boston

If your New Year’s resolution for 2024 is to have a Dry January, then there’s one hotel bar in Boston that can help you stick to your goal while enjoying a “cocktail.”

Joel Atlas, mixologist at Avery Bar at the Ritz-Carlton in Boston, located at 10 Avery St., is offering two mocktails for Dry January and the new year. The mocktails include the Mirage and the Day & Night.

The Mirage is made of up a muddle consisting of 1-2 strawberries, 2-3 cucumber slices, 3/4 ounces of lemon juice and 1/2 ounce of simple syrup. Three ounces of Feragaia, Scotland’s first distilled alcohol-free spirit, are added to a mixer, shaken and then fine strained into a Collins Glass. Lastly, a splash of Ginger Ale is poured on top for a crisp finish. The Mirage is then garnished with a cucumber ribbon, lemon twist and strawberry slices.

With these beverages, Atlas said he wanted to offer creative and exciting drinks so guests don’t get their spirits down about avoiding alcohol during the first year of the month.

“The experience remains the same. Share with us your flavor profile, and what you’re in the mood for, and we can make you a bold, refreshing beverage that will leave you smiling for the evening, and more importantly, for several days after you leave us,” the mixologist said.

Those looking to try the mocktails themselves can head to Avery Bar from 4-11 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 4 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday. The bar is closed Sunday and Monday.
