A pair of familiar foes will face off in the Division III state championship on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Curry College in Milton.
No. 1 Medfield and No. 2 Nipmuc Regional will clash in the Div. III finals for the second year in a row.
Nipmuc claimed the title in 2024 by a score of 1-0.
The title was Nipmuc’s second in program history, as a Medfield team looking for vengeance has never claimed the title.
Medfield (17-1) has not lost a contest since Sep 13, when they fell to Bishop Feehan 2-1. The Warriors have not allowed more than two goals in a contest between the regular season and playoffs.
Medfield shut out Ursuline Academy in the round of 32 before blanking St. Mary’s in the round of 16.
The Warriors then handled business against Tewksbury in the quarterfinals and bested Pope Francis in the semis.
Nipmuc Regional (18-0-1) is coming off an undefeated campaign, with the only match they failed to win being a 1-1 draw against Weston on September 12. These Warriors have also not allowed more than two goals in a contest between the regular season and playoffs.
Nipmuc shutout Pentucket Regional in their round of 32 matchup before taking down Foxborough High School in the round of 16.
The Warriors were able to defeat Dover-Sherborn in their quarterfinal matchup before narrowly blanking Norwell in the semifinals.
The Medfield offense has been on full display as they have amassed an impressive 28 goals during their state tournament run, including a 10-1 quarterfinal performance on November 13.
Nipmuc has tallied 14 goals during their tournament run.
Despite both team’s offensive output, the focus will likely be on the defensive side of the ball as both squads have only let two goals past their keepers in the tournament and both recorded two shutouts thus far.
The defensive focus holds true once again between these two championship foes as last year’s matchup was 1-0 defensive battle.
