A new traveling exhibition about the ancient Egyptian Boy King Tutankhamun will open to the public in Boston starting this February.
The exhibition, titled “Discovering King Tut’s Tomb,” will launch its multi-month-long stay in Boston on Friday, Feb. 13 and will be housed inside the walls of the Saunders Castle at Park Plaza in Bay Village.
Immersive experience company Imagine is behind the exhibition, according to a press release about “Discovering King Tut’s Tomb.” The exhibition is expected to run through the summer, but is currently without a set end date.
Those interested can join a ticket waitlist to secure their access ahead of the general public — with standard tickets available for purchase online starting Thursday, Jan. 15 at 9 a.m. ET.
“Discovering King Tut’s Tomb” features “handmade original replicas” of artifacts created by Egyptian craftsmen including the pharaoh’s death mask, golden nested coffins and burial items, according to Imagine.
Imagine said that since the official opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum outside Cairo last year, the country’s government has decreed that original artifacts from King Tut’s tomb will no longer leave Egypt’s borders.
It added that the exhibition therefore offers guests “the only opportunity outside of Egypt for this type of experience.”
Notable features in “Discovering King Tut’s Tomb” include high-resolution virtual reality headsets to enhance guests’ experiences, as well as a narrated audio guide tour.
During the experience, guests will follow in the footsteps of British archaeologist Howard Carter, who discovered the preserved tomb more than a century ago in 1922.
Guests will encounter a replicated burial chamber, educational animations and galleries about the history of archaeology and its modern-day practices.
They will also have the opportunity to learn about the rituals of mummification, ancient Egyptian culture and mythology and the legacy of King Tut through the exhibition, Imagine noted.
The exhibition is currently on display in Las Vegas, Nevada and has been seen by hundreds of thousands of people, Imagine said.
Once in Boston, the exhibition will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, with last entry at 5 p.m. It will also be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with last entry at 6 p.m.
The venue, Saunders Castle at Park Plaza, is a historic former armory and has previously housed notable experiences such as “Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition” in late 2024 and which was extended into mid-2025.
