BOSTON — Anyone who bought a ticket to the Bruins preseason game Monday was treated to the lineup that’s getting closer to what they’ll use on opening night.
But that group fell to a largely junior varsity Flyers lineup, 3-2 in a shootout at TD Garden.
Bobby Brink scored the only goal of the shootout as he beat Jeremy Swayman on the first penalty shot.
Swayman and David Pastrnak each made their preseason debuts in the game. Swayman stopped 20 shots, including five in overtime, and Pastrnak had an assist in their first appearances.
After a scoreless first, the Flyers took a 1-0 lead in the second when Jeremy Swayman mishandled the puck trying to feed Frederic Brunet in the right wing corner. But Bobby Brink picked the puck off his stick and sent it back behind the net, where Tyson Foerster collected it and centered it out front.
Noah Cates tapped it in with 6:22 left in the second.
Shortly after the Bruins killed David Pastrnak’s holding penalty, he was on the ice with fourth-line center Sean Kuraly. Pastrnak threaded a pass through traffic and Kuraly redirected it by Dan Vladar to tie the game 1-1 just with 4:14 left.
Swayman surrendered a goal he’d probably like back late in the period when Rodrigo Abols, a career European league and AHL player, snapped a shot through his legs on the rush to make it 2-1.
Morgan Geekie’s second goal of the preseason tied the game 2-2 with 8:39 left. Vladar got a glove on Geekie’s wrist shot moving through the slot, but it knocked the puck into the air and it fluttered over the goalie into the net, setting up overtime.
Casey Mittelstadt, Pastrnak and Pavel Zacha all came up empty in the shootout.
