Dense fog creating difficult Monday morning commute across Mass.

Forecasters are warning commuters to take extra precautions Monday morning due to a layer of dense fog settling in over much of the Bay State.

The National Weather Service set down a Dense Fog Advisory until 9 a.m. for almost the entire state, warning “low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.” The advisory is in place until noon in some parts of southeastern Massachusetts, where forecasters say they expect the fog to linger.

“If driving, slow down, use your headlights, and leave plenty of distance ahead of you,” forecasters said.

Increasing winds are expected to drive the fog out, giving way to a warm front that could drive temperatures into the 60s. A round of light showers is expected to roll through the state between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m., with heavier rain following behind it.

While there is little chance for severe weather, forecasters say the state could see thunder embedded in the afternoon and evening storms. In all, up to an inch of rain could fall on Monday.
