HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Newly released video shows the moment a deputy constable was shot at by a robbery suspect last week.
In the video, Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office Deputy Constable Deteryon Fontonet can be heard telling the suspect, Danthony Simms-Coleman, to step toward him with his hands up, KHOU.com reported. However, Simms-Coleman reaches inside his truck for a gun. Fontonet was struck by bullet fragments in three different locations on his body, according to the department.
The video shows Simms-Coleman running off near houses in a neighborhood while firing several shots at Fontonet.
Deputy constables initially responded to robbery calls at two Academy stores, where one caller reported a suspect entered the store with a gun and robbed them, according to the report. Fontonet spotted Simms-Coleman, 23, who led him on a pursuit that ended in a neighborhood.
Simms-Coleman eventually surrendered after more deputies arrived on the scene. He was charged with aggravated assault of a public servant.
