Dakin Humane Society: What affects us affects our pets

Taz is a friendly, 1-year-old pit bull with a tan and white coat. His family, who had adopted him as a pup and adored him as a family member, had fallen on hard times and were living and sleeping in their car. The sweltering heat of this summer led them to make a painfully tough decision to bring Taz to Dakin for rehoming. They were worried about him living in a hot car, and made the sacrifice to help him live a healthier, better life.

Dakin Humane Society is here as a safety net for people like Taz’s family when they have nowhere to go. When circumstances wreak havoc on people’s lives, it affects their pets as well. Animal companionship encompasses both highs and lows. We revel in the company of beloved pets and share unconditional love, but there are the sorrows of having to say goodbye to them for a variety of reasons.
