Raina Wonsey battled back after falling behind early to lead No. 6 Frontier softball past No. 7 South Hadley, 4-2, on Monday.
The Tigers jumped in front when Samantha LaFlesh scored on passed ball from third base in the second inning. An RBI single from Karli Carmody followed to double their advantage before Wonsey could stop the bleeding.
But Wonsey responded loudly in the bottom of the inning, drilling a solo home run to left field to lead off the frame.
Isabella Schaeffer struck out the side to close the third and held the Red Hawks quiet in the third.
But the Red Hawks struck again in the fourth, taking the lead on a two-RBI single from Sophia Pinardi after back-to-back hits from Olivia Machon and Wonsey.
Delaney Fifield secured the hosts’ lead in the sixth with a solo home run.
Wonsey finished with 18 strikeouts, allowing two hits and six walks in seven innings to finish off the Tigers.
Frontier finishes the regular season with an 11-7 record. South Hadley finishes the regular season with an 11-6 record. Both teams will compete in the WMass Class B tournament and in the Division V state tournament.
