When a 26-year-old man aboard a scooter was hit by a car in the early morning hours of July 19, Worcester Police failed to respond. At the same time, a computer outage blamed on the security software CrowdStrike forced the grounding of several flights and cancellation of numerous medical appointments.
A Worcester Police Department spokesman on Wednesday hinted at a link between the failure to respond and the outage.
“We weren’t dispatched for some reason. I think it was the day of the CrowdStrike Microsoft issue,” Lt. Sean Murtha told WCVB-TV on Wednesday. “We’re looking into what happened. We weren’t told about it, and as soon as we were told about it we began the investigation.”
