Crash on I-95 in Attleboro leaves four injured

A crash on Interstate 95 in Attleboro on Sunday night left four people injured, including one person who had to be freed from their car by firefighters, officials said.

Attleboro firefighters were called to the area of Exit 2 on the southbound side of the highway around 7:26 p.m. on Sunday, Fire Chief Scott T. Lachance said in a statement. When first responders arrived, they found a four-vehicle crash involving six people.

The southbound lanes of the highway were closed while firefighters used hydraulic tools to free a person in one of the vehicles, according to the statement. That person was freed and taken to Rhode Island Hospital along with three others. Two people involved in the crash declined treatment, according to the statement.

“The significant damage to the vehicles and the number of patients required careful assessment and triage, along with a complex extrication,” said District Chief Michael Maitland. “Our crews worked efficiently and professionally under dark, cold, and challenging conditions.”

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
