Country singer goes all‑out, imports Boston lobster for son’s birthday in Tennessee

Kimberly Perry of The Band Perry will always consider the South her home, but the country music singer also has a soft spot for Massachusetts.

The Grammy-winning band kicked off their 2026 tour at the Lynn Memorial Auditorium in Lynn on Jan. 9, marking the first time they had played a show in the “dead cold of winter” in the state, according to Perry.

“I just always personally loved the spirit of this area and have been here on a couple seasons,” the frontwoman said during an interview with MassLive.

The Band Perry has performed in the area several times before, so this most recent show reminded Perry about her favorite Boston memories, most of which occurred when the weather was warmer.

On top of going to “a couple Red Sox games,” Perry’s family has a borderline obsession with Boston lobster rolls. So much so that the singer ordered them for her son’s last birthday party.

“We love a good lobster roll in this family,” Perry, who grew up in Mississippi but now lives in Tennessee, said while laughing.

“In fact, I imported some lobster for our son’s birthday down in Tennessee because I love the lobster rolls so much in Boston,” the singer continued.

Perry already can’t wait to come back to Boston during the warmer months to get her hands on another one.

“Let’s do this every season because, again, I love Boston,” Perry said. “We got to come back over the summer and sort of explore the beautiful city that Boston is.”

The Band Perry’s Lynn show marked the group’s return to touring after going on hiatus in 2023 and its first tour in roughly seven years. The band officially went on a hiatus in 2023 before reuniting in 2025. However, Perry’s brothers Neil and Reid, who were original members of the band, have since left the group to pursue other ventures, and Perry’s husband, Johnny Costello, has joined his wife.

The Band Perry made its official return to the stage for a hurricane benefit concert in Greeneville, Tennessee, in January 2025. In an Instagram post from Dec. 31, 2025, the band said that moment “swung the door of our hearts and imaginations wide open to creating a million more.”

Perry, 42, told MassLive that she and Costello “are just so thrilled to carry what I feel like I’ve always started.”

“This was my band, first and foremost, when I was 15,” she added. “It’s always been a family band. This is season two and our new iteration of that, and we’re having a blast.”

The Band Perry will continue its 2026 tour through April before playing a few festivals later in the year. Afterward, the duo will get back into the studio to complete a new record, which Perry said they are “very close” to finishing.

The singer said the first song off the half-finished project “will be out imminently.”

The Band Perry has already posted a snippet of a new song on social media. The video shows a hand sticking a small sword into a cake with a heart design on top, then pulling out a large chunk from the jam-filled center.

Fans have called the teaser “Taylor coded,” in reference to Taylor Swift’s “Reputation” era, while others said it gave them “Ready or Not vibes.”

“I can’t wait to hear new music from you guys soon,” one fan commented on Instagram.

Meanwhile, comments on TikTok included “I’m already obsessed,” “we hungry girl” and “we’re so back.”
