Cool, dry weather expected across Massachusetts this week

A high-pressure system over southern New England will lead to a dry and cool Wednesday across Massachusetts, with light winds and seasonable temperatures.

Temperatures across the Bay State should reach the mid to high 40s on Wednesday, with overcast skies along the South Coast but sunshine in northern parts of the state. The vast majority of the state will see dry conditions throughout the day, but a wave of low pressure passing south of the region could bring light showers to Nantucket.

Overnight, temperatures are expected to drop to the teens or low 20s.

The weather pattern for Thursday looks much like Wednesday’s, with highs in the 40s and lows in the 20s and a mix of sun and clouds.

Friday will also remain largely dry, but a northern stream shortwave moving across northern New England is expected to bring some showers overnight into early Saturday. Before the rain, temperatures could reach the low 50s along the coast and high 40s in higher terrain.

But it’s still unclear how much rain could fall overnight.

“Where there is disagreement is among how much moisture is available,” forecasters wrote. “Nevertheless, this is a weakly forced environment and do not expect any impacts.”

A cold front is expected to move through on Saturday, with temperatures dropping to the 40s along the coast and into the 30s in areas of higher terrain. Any lingering moisture could lead to some flurries.

High pressure is likely to build across the eastern Seaboard on Sunday into early next week, but forecasters expect its primary impact to be some additional cloud cover as a result of the dry atmosphere.

Temperatures early next week are expected to reach the high 40s and low 50s during the day, with nighttime lows in the 30s.
