Connecticut’s Goodspeed theater presents ‘Summer Stock’

Last fall Cheri Steinkellner got a call from an unknown New York City phone number; it was from her theater agent. “She wasn’t in my phone contacts, because it’s been that long since I’ve gotten a call!,” Steinkellner said.

The agent was calling for a writer to adapt “Summer Stock” into a stage musical. She asked if Steinkellner was familiar with the film. “Was I ever! I grew up on MGM musicals,” Steinkellner replied. “They need(ed) the script like yesterday in order to make a June rehearsal and July opening. Luckily, I began my writing career for TV where you turn out a play a week, so fast is my favorite way to work. There’s no time for second-guessing. You’ve got to trust your muses and type it up.”
