CULVER CITY, Calif. —”I’d like to a buy a U,” Rocky Hill Police Officer Will Jordan said when trying to solve the puzzle board during an episode of “Wheel of Fortune” that aired on Monday night. Three U’s appeared on the board, leaving it displaying “_ — _ E — YOURSE_F A ROUN_ OF A — _ — AUSE.” Jordan then said he was ready to solve the puzzle and exclaimed, “Treat yourself a round of sausage.”

The audience laughed, while host Ryan Seacrest simply said, “I’m sorry, that’s not it.” Fellow contestant, Kitina Thomas, then gave the correct answer, “Give yourself a round of applause,” leading Seacrest to respond, “Will, I kind of like yours better.” During “Wheel of Fortune” episodes, contestants are tasked with completing a phrase on the puzzle board to win money.
The officer’s incorrect answer went viral on social media. An X post by Barstool Sports, sharing the clip of the guess, had 6.6 million views and a post by Yahoo Sports’ Kendall Baker had 572,000 views. An Instagram post by “Wheel of Fortune,” showing Jordan being interviewed by the show’s media correspondent, Maggie Sajak, had 285,000 views as of Tuesday afternoon. Media outlets, including CNN, TODAY, NBC News and Entertainment Weekly, were quick to run stories about Jordan’s incorrect answer.
Jordan told Sajak that seeing stars like Seacrest and Vanna White caused him to “blank” and added that his fellow officers would likely tease him for his answer. For Jordan’s efforts during the show, host Ryan Seacrest signed the back of a cue card and gave it to him.
“I’m sure I’m going to have sausages in my locker and police car when I get back. We’ll try to have some fun with it,” Jordan told Sajak.
Monday’s episode of “Wheel of Fortune,” now in its 42nd season, honored Veteran’s Day, with each contestant having a history of serving in the military. Before working at the Rocky Hill Police Department, Jordan served as a petty officer in the United States Coast Guard and later as a sergeant at the Newington Police Department, the Rocky Hill Police Department’s Facebook page reads. Jordan currently serves as a school resource officer for Moser School.
To celebrate his appearance on the game show, as well as Veteran’s Day, Jordan asked individuals to donate non-perishable food items to the Rocky Hill Human Services Food Bank, a post on the Rocky Hill Police Department’s Facebook reads.
Although he got the puzzle board phrase wrong, Jordan still won $8,000 during the show, ranking in third place.
