More than 15,000 people have signed on to an online petition attempting to prevent state officials from removing a domesticated beaver named Nibi from captivity.
The beaver was “raised under human care” at Newhouse Wildlife Rescue in Chelmsford, according to a change.org petition. Removing the beaver from the wildlife rescue could “put her at serious risk, a risk we consider not only unnecessary but also potentially disastrous,” the petition reads.
State officials intend to release Nibi back into the wild on Tuesday.
