WESTFIELD — A public hearing for a special permit and site plan approval for a lumber yard for Westlake Royal Building Products located at 44 Grief Way highlighted the virtual City Council meeting on Aug. 21.
Rob Levesque of R. Levesque Associats presented the proposal on behalf of Christian Sopp of Westlake, who was also at the Zoom meeting. He said the property sits between Grief Way and the turnpike, and the business, known to many as Clear Lumber, opened 10 years ago utilizing the existing building.
Levesque said the business is growing, has expanded into the yard area and wants to build an outdoor pavilion area for storage of materials. Looking at its growth, they identified the need for additional stormwater on the property. He said the yard that is currently gravel has one stormwater basin, and phase one of the plan is to create two more basins with concrete over them and under the pavilion to protect the area.
