City Council complies with state-required changes to water ordinance

WESTFIELD — At the March 6 City Council meeting, Natural Resource Subcommittee chair Kristen Mello asked the Council to approve amendments to the city’s water ordinance that involves restrictions during drought. The amendments were approved after some discussion on a 12-1 vote, with Councilor Nicholas Morganelli the sole no vote.

Mello said there are changes that the city has to follow from the state drought task force and the Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs. “When the state decrees drought, local ordinances have to comply. This is not much of a choice,” she said, before presenting the amendments.
