City auditor gives financial overview at public hearing on FY26 budget

WESTFIELD — The June 23 public hearing on the fiscal year 2026 budget began with a financial overview by Auditor Vicki Moro, who said the budget is “almost there.” She said the budget had been pared down, with more analytical data and comparison charts from the Division of Local Services on the history of free cash in the city and average tax bills.

Moro said although it has been “a tough budget season,” the outlook is still favorable with healthy stabilization reserves of $10 million plus $7.1 million in reserve for debt decline, and money in free cash that will carry over.
