CISA releases comprehensive resources to prevent vehicle ramming attacks

By Police1 Staff

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has released a suite of resources aimed at helping organizations mitigate the risks of vehicle-borne attacks.

The vehicle ramming mitigation materials provide detailed guidance on physical security measures and proactive strategies to protect crowded spaces and critical infrastructure.

Key resources include:

  • Vehicle Incident Prevention and Mitigation Security Guide: A comprehensive guide offering actionable steps to identify vulnerabilities, implement physical barriers, and develop security plans tailored to specific sites (a two-page summary is available below).
  • Vehicle Ramming Action Guide: A quick-reference document summarizing essential strategies, including effective use of bollards, planters and other physical deterrents.
  • Vehicle ramming self-assessment tool: Developed in partnership with the Chicago Police Department to assist critical infrastructure owners and operators and federal, state and local law enforcement agencies with evaluating areas of interest against the risk of a vehicle-ramming style of attack.

These resources emphasize a layered security approach, combining physical deterrents, technology integration and regular risk assessments to enhance public safety.
