Chicopee to hold National Night Out after 2 cancellations

CHICOPEE – The city’s National Night Out event will be held on Monday after being canceled twice because of rain.

The event, which was celebrated nationally Aug. 1, has been held in Chicopee on the first Monday of August for years. The free event will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. in Sarah Jane Sherman Park off Chicopee Street.

The event is designed to bring law enforcement and the community together to improve relationships and reduce crime.

There will be free food and displays from the police and fire departments with the Hampden County Sheriff’s Office. Other activities include a flashlight parade around the neighborhood, police K9 demonstrations, dance and taekwondo shows, a rock wall and more.
