Celtics All-Star forward could be in dunk contest (report)

Jaylen Brown is officially a three-time All-Star after he was selected as a reserve last week. Now, there’s a chance he gets in on more of the festivities as part of All-Star weekend in Indianapolis. Brown is “seriously considering” being a part of the NBA’s dunk contest, per The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

Brown hasn’t taken part of the dunk contest before in his career, so that could be a fun development. He’s thrown down some vicious in-game dunks in the past and definitely has the athleticism to win the whole thing. When asked if he’d ever be part of the dunk contest back in late-December, here’s what he had to say about it:

“Who knows,” Brown said. “Man, I’m focused on getting my team ready for what’s next come and taking those next steps. We’ll see. I haven’t put any thought into it. Maybe if the people want it. Enough people ask for it, we’ll get it. As of now, I’m not really thinking about it.”

Brown is currently averaging 22.3 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game this season, earning his third All-Star nod in the last four seasons. The counting stats are down for Brown coming off a second-team All-NBA season, but that’s partly because of the Celtics’ talented surrounding cast. In turn, Brown has ramped up the defense as his two-way play this season has turned heads.

Brown and Jayson Tatum are the Celtics’ current All-Stars on the roster. All-Star weekend will take place from Feb. 16-18 at Indiana’s Gainbridge Fieldhouse. There is a chance some other C’s are named to the game, notably Derrick White or Kristaps Porzingis, as injury replacements. But those decisions will come out in the following days. The full list of participants in the dunk contest, 3-point shooting challenge and more should also come out within the next week.
