On Sunday, May 25, the Catholic Memorial Knights will be featured on ESPN for the work they do in their community.
The segment, “Knights of Service” which will air at 8 a.m., details CM’s tradition of holding military funerals for veterans without family members.
Ahead of the broadcast, ESPN shared a short trailer of “Knights of Service.”
“If you’ve never been to a military funeral, it’s probably the most powerful thing in the world,” CM assistant hockey coach Chris Casey said in the trailer. “What these people have done for the country, and have done for other people, it’s remarkable.”
Since 2017, the Knights have held the funerals for departed veterans. One of the most recent came just ahead of the Division I state title game for CM hockey.
Two days before the championship, CM hockey players served as pallbearers in the funeral.
“We realize how big that really is and we come together behind that,” CM senior Tommy Hurst said in the trailer.
