Cat has burns on half her body. This Massachusetts rescue is trying to save her.

A Massachusetts rescue is trying to save a cat with burns on over half her body.

Era, the cat, was found in a work shed in Oxford with second and third degree burns on 55% of her body, the Animal Rescue League of Boston’s (ARL) said. ARL isn’t sure how Era was burned. But she was quickly taken to the rescue for help.

“The procedures are intensive and painful, and Era is at the beginning of a very long road to recovery,” the rescue said.

Still, the rescue “is doing everything possible to save this animal’s life.”

Treatment includes pain management and twice-weekly wound debridement, which involves removing dead skin and exposing the new skin underneath to promote healing.

She will eventually be placed in foster care “to give her a quiet and calm environment to further help in the healing process,” ARL said.

And all of her treatments are expensive.

It costs about $1,500 per week. And the rescue is unsure how long it will take but it could last several months.

“ARL is asking the public for support in helping Era and animals like her,” the rescue said in a statement, setting up a donation page around the cat.
