A lesbian-owned, feminist bookshop in Provincetown won a Jamie Lee Curtis-inspired culture award Tuesday night.
Womencrafts, which describes itself as “Ptown’s hub for activism and community,” won “the Jamie Lee Curtis Award for Gusto, Enthusiasm, and Individuality” during the first-ever Las Culturistas Culture Awards, which aired on Bravo Tuesday night.
Las Culturistas is a comedy and culture commentary podcast hosted by SNL star Bowen Yang and comedian Matt Rodgers. Rodgers described the absurdist awards show to The New York Times as “an awards show that’s really a comedy special disguising itself as an awards show.”
Curtis presented the award, naming five nominees, including actress and model Julia Fox and “Monstro Elisasue” — a deformed version of Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley’s characters that appears at the end of 2024 hit horror movie “The Substance.”
After Curtis announced that Womencrafts had won the award, SNL star Ana Gasteyer went up to the podium to accept while portraying a fictional owner of the shop as part of a comedy gag.
“We sell books and gifts and a bunch of other fun crap. So if you’re in P-town for bear week, come on down. If you’re in P-town for pig week, also come on down. Or if you’re a pup or you’re a twink or a daddy — you know what? Just come on down,” she said, spoofing the shop.
“We’ve got RBG mugs. We got Amanda Gorman votive candles. Poly week is coming up. So if you’re coming, come on down. We’ve got four for one Kamala shirts.”
In a video posted to Instagram, Womencrafts owner Michelle Axelson seemed tickled by Gasteyer’s portrayal of her shop.
“Yay for Ana Gasteyer. How cool was that?” she said. “They very much knew the shop.”

The Provincetown Business Guild also celebrated the shop’s win on Instagram, writing that it was “beyond proud of everyone over at Womencrafts.”
“You do so much for our community and we are so grateful for you. This award is so well deserved,” the guild wrote. “ … Every day at 12:34, a moment of Queer Joy is celebrated on the steps of their store. Michelle and her team show up loud and proud — rallying crowds, educating the community, and leading with purpose.”
Womencrafts is one of Provincetown’s oldest shops and has been lesbian-owned and operated since 1976, according to the shop’s website. The website states that Womencrafts’ mission is “to promote the work of female artisans, authors, and musicians.”
