WESTFIELD — Ever since she was 18, Kate Corcodilos has been proactive about getting screened for breast cancer. She has the BRCA gene mutation, which can impact a person’s chances of developing breast cancer, as well as a family history of the disease.
With breast cancer — the second most common cancer among women — always a strong possibility, Corcodilos is thankful that wherever she lived she had doctors who also believed in yearly screenings of mammograms, MRIs and blood tests. The Westfield native, who turns 40 in December, recently moved back to the city after living away for several years.
