Two Bruins streaks came to an end on Saturday. Their 10-game winless streak and their eight-year playoffs streak.
Despite playing their best game in weeks, the Bruins were still eliminated from the playoffs when Montreal beat Philadelphia, 3-2. The Flyers scored the first goal of the game, but the Canadiens scored three in a row early in the third.
At 31-37-9, the Bruins have 71 points with five games left. The most they can finish with is 81. The Canadiens, who are in the second wild card position, now have 83 points at 37-30-9.
Boston is the first Eastern Conference team eliminated from the playoffs.
The Bruins had been tied for the longest active postseason streak in the NHL at eight seasons dating back to 2017. Toronto, which has already clinched a spot, is now the leader with nine straight seasons in the postseason.
