STARBUCK, Minn. — The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has released body-worn camera footage showing an incident that claimed the life of Pope County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Josh Owen in 2023.

This annual event is a time for neighborhoods and law enforcement to strengthen relationships, build trust and have some fun

Episodes of “Park City Confidential,’ created by the Bridgeport PD homicide unit, will run about five minutes and include both detectives and family members of the victims

“Be prepared to leave your location,” said the voice from the sky in footage released by the city’s emergency management agency. “If flooding occurs, do not hesitate”

It may not be uphill both ways, but kids walking to school is not without risk; these options can put parents at ease

Video released on Aug. 1 shows an officer with the Starbuck Police Department and two Pope County deputies responding to a reported domestic dispute on April 15, 2023. The officers spoke with the suspect, eventually informing him that he was under arrest.

The suspect then stood up from the table where he was sitting and began firing shots at the officers. All three officers were struck. Two officers returned fire, striking the suspect.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. The officers were treated at a hospital, where Owen later died.

Owen, who was killed on his 44th birthday, was an Iraq war veteran and a 14-year veteran of the sheriff’s office, according to a previous Associated Press report.
