HOUSTON — Body camera footage has been released in the fatal officer-involved shooting of a man who shot and wounded a Houston officer in November, FOX 26 reported.
The shooting occurred on a freeway after officers pursued the suspect. The 19-year-old man crashed the stolen vehicle he was driving, then opened fire at officers.
Video shows the man ducking behind cars as he continues to fire at the police. Officers duck behind their cruisers and median barricades.
Officer J. Gibson was shot in the leg during the exchange of gunfire. A video of bystander John Lally pulling Gibson to safety circulated on the internet when the incident occurred. Lally was heralded as a hero by Houston Police Department Chief Troy Finner.
Officers eventually shot the man, who died on the scene, according to the report.
