COLUMBUS, Ohio — Body camera footage released by the NYPD shows an officer firing shots at a suspect’s foot after being shot himself in order to take the suspect’s handgun, according to a critical incident review.
A judge determined that because the man’s protest did not inhibit officers from citing drivers or block drivers from view, it did not qualify as interference

The June 3 incident occurred when patrol officers observed a man driving an unregistered motorcycle the wrong way on a one-way road without a helmet, according to the review. When the officers initiated a traffic stop, the suspect abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot.
The officers pursued the man and caught up to him. As they worked to detain him, the suspect resisted, body camera footage shows.
During the struggle, the suspect drew a handgun and fired several shots, striking two of the officers. While holding the suspect’s gun and attempting to wrestle it away from the suspect, one of the wounded officers drew his service weapon and fired several shots at the suspect’s foot.
The shots caused the suspect to release his hold on his handgun.
The suspect was treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, according to the review. He was then arrested and charged with first and second degree attempted murder, first degree attempted assault, second degree assault and other charges related to criminal possession of a loaded firearm.
