BWC: Man, 79, threatens NYPD cop with gun outside precinct before fatal OIS

NEW YORK – New York Attorney General Letitia James released body-worn camera and surveillance footage from an officer-involved shooting of a 79-year-old man who threatened officers outside an NYPD precinct with a gun, QNS reported.

The release is part of an ongoing investigation by the Office of Special Investigation (OSI) into the February 18 incident, according to the report.

According to officials, a man with a large coat entered the parking area of the 111th Precinct in Bayside while carrying a firearm. The video, released on April 1, shows an officer at the doorway of the station house ordering him several times to drop the weapon while calling for backup.

The suspect did not comply, and four officers opened fire, striking him multiple times in the chest.

Officers administered CPR until EMS arrived, according to the report. The suspect was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. A loaded Cobra .38 Special revolver was recovered at the scene.
