Detective Carlos Diaz was attempting to arrest a suspect on a first-degree murder indictment, according to the report. The body camera footage, released July 15, shows Diaz approaching a yellow car when the suspect, exiting the car from the passenger side, opened fire, injuring Diaz.

Detective Joseph Gonzales then responded, firing at the suspect through the open passenger side door. The suspect was struck by the gunfire, bringing him to the ground.

Both Diaz and the suspect were treated at a hospital, with Diaz being released from the hospital later that night.

Both officers have been placed on routine administrative assignment during the investigation. The suspect, who was indicted for first-degree murder, has had his bond set at $1 million by a Criminal Court Judge.
