Bruins vs. Rangers preseason game start delayed

Rain delays in the NHL are rare, but Rangers and the Bruins will start Sunday’s preseason game late because of weather. It was scheduled for 5 p.m. and will now start at 5:45 p.m.

The remnants of Tropical Storm Ophelia were drenching the Mid-Atlantic through New England and making travel more difficult. It’s unclear whether they eventually flew or bused to the game.

Both the Bruins and Rangers released the identical following update:

“Due to travel issues for the New York Rangers, puck drop for today’s preseason game is now expected at 5:45 p.m.”

During the regular season, teams would have traveled the night before. But because only a portion of the expanded preseason roster is playing in an exhibition game, teams usually travel on the day of the game.

The game was the first preseason game for both rivals.
