Joe Sacco’s time with the Bruins officially came to an end on Thursday when he joined the New York Rangers as an assistant after Boston announced it hired Marco Sturm as its next coach.
Sacco took over in the interim after Jim Montgomery was fired in November.
The Bruins released a statement Thursday night to thank Sacco for his efforts.
“On behalf of the Boston Bruins, we want to thank Joe Sacco for his professionalism and dedication to our organization over the past 11 years. Joe always put the team first and took great pride in helping players improve and succeed. He’s a great hockey mind, but more importantly, he’s a terrific person.
“We are all grateful for the memories we’ve shared with Joe during our time together in Boston. While this is a difficult part of the business, we respect Joe’s decision to continue his coaching career in New York, and we wish him and his family all the best.”
Sacco went 24-30-6 during his brief tenure on the bench. He was originally in the mix for the Bruins coaching position, but was out of the running earlier this week.
