Bruins coach Jim Montgomery said Matt Poitras will be back in the Boston lineup on Saturday night when his team returns home to face the New York Rangers at TD Garden.
“Yes, he’ll be back in,” Montgomery said after the Bruins’ 5-4 win over the Islanders on Friday.
Poitras was out of the lineup for the second time in eight days at UBS Arena on Friday. Trent Frederic, who has played mostly wing this season, moved to center with Poitras out of the lineup.
Jim Montgomery, whose leash has been growing shorter with his rookie center, said the decision not to play Poitras against the Islanders was part of a rest plan for the 19-year-old.
“Poitras is coming out as planned with the maintenance plan we had put in place for him, the load management,” Montgomery said.
Jesper Boqvist was called up from Providence before Wednesday’s game but didn’t play that night. He was in the Bruins’ lineup on Friday. It might be a short stay in Boston for Boqvist, who played just nine shifts and 4:47 of ice time. He’d be a natural candidate to come out of the lineup and could be returned to the AHL.
Both Charlie McAvoy and Pavel Zacha are eligible to come off injured reserve on Saturday, but there’s been no indication that either is ready.

Poitras sat for the first time last week against Buffalo and Montgomery explained that the Bruins were trying to proceed smartly with him. Montgomery has limited his play in key spots late in games.
Poitras has five goals and seven assists in 26 games for Boston.
