Bruins prospect enters transfer portal after 2 seasons at Minnesota Duluth

Cole Spicer will continue his collegiate career at Arizona State after spending two seasons at the University of Minnesota Duluth.

The Boston Bruins prospect entered the transfer portal on Monday, according to the Grand Forks Herald.

The center was scheduled to be a junior at Minnesota-Duluth this year. He participated in Bruins Development Camp over the summer.

But In July, Spicer revealed his decision to the Duluth News Tribune’s Matt Wellens that he was stepping away for the foreseeable future.

“I need to figure out some personal and mental stuff first,” Spicer said. “Right now I need to take a step away and figure a couple things out.”

The 20-year-old returned to junior hockey in September.

Spicer, who was drafted in the fourth round (117th overall) in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft by the Bruins, had three goals and had as many assists in 32 games for the Bulldogs during his freshman year. He picked up the pace a bit in his sophomore year with five goals and four assists before his season suddenly came to an end when Spicer was deemed academically ineligible to continue playing hockey.

Spicer is currently playing for Dubuque in the United States Hockey League.
