Bruins’ Jake DeBrusk hopes 2 goals in 2 games sparks a surge

BOSTON — It wasn’t cause for celebration because the goal came in a loss. But Jake DeBrusk, the Bruins’ often streaky forward, was hopeful his second goal in as many games was the start of a surge.

DeBrusk hadn’t scored in seven games before Wednesday’s win over Florida.

DeBrusk’s goal in Friday’s 5-2 loss to Detroit came after being elevated to the No. 1 power play with James van Riemsdyk getting the afternoon off amid five games in eight days. It was just DeBrusk’s third goal of the season after matching his career high with 27 last year.

“It helps. It was a pretty greasy goal again,” he said. “You just have to keep going to the front of the net. It’s one of those things. It’s always good to see it go in. You want to do it in a winning manner though and it didn’t happen.”

“Personally it’s been hard to get those in the net this year so it’s nice to get those back to back,” he added. “But if it doesn’t happen in a win, it really doesn’t feel that good. Hopefully, it gets me back in a groove. I wouldn’t mind a hot streak, that’s for sure.”
