BOSTON — After producing just one winning streak of longer than two games all of last season, the Bruins have opened the 2025-26 campaign and Marco Sturm era with three straight victories.
Boston survived a handful of anxious moments late and beat the Sabres, 3-1 on Saturday at TD Garden.
In the middle of an expected storm, the Bruins (3-0) host the Lightning on Monday.
Jordan Harris got his first point as a Bruin in his sixth shift. Moving in from the left point, he collected the puck on the boards as Pavel Zacha floated back from the net to give himself extra space. Harris fed him the puck just inside the near faceoff dot and Zacha one-timed it past Alex Lyon to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead with 4:12 left in the first.
It was the lone blemish in a great period by Lyon, who made 15 saves, including a handful of beauties.
Lyon had some rough luck in the second. Mark Kastelic used some funky pinball to put the Bruins up 2-0 as the puck caromed high off Sabres defenseman Conor Timmins and knuckled down into the net just past the midway point of the game.
Jason Zucker spoiled Jeremy Swayman’s hopes for a shutout and any chance for a comfortable night for the Bruins. The Sabres veteran scored with 10:14 left to make it 2-1.
After the Bruins missed two huge chances to put the game away with the goalie pulled, in the final two minutes, Sean Kuraly scored his first goal since returning to Boston, an empty-netter with 2.2 seconds left.
Swayman finished with 22 saves, while Lyon stopped 28.
