Bruins appear to have chosen their third alternate captain

BOSTON — For the first time in the preseason, the Bruins had most of their regulars in the lineup for Monday’s game against the Flyers at TD Garden.

That included Charlie McAvoy and David Pastrnak, the Bruins’ de facto co-captains, who are each wearing alternates’ “A’s” to start the year with nobody wearing a “C.”

The Bruins announced that they’d play without a captain until someone earned the role organically. Nobody has worn it since Brad Marchand was traded last year at the deadline.

Hampus Lindholm donned the third “A” against Philadelphia and is likely to keep it during the season.

Hampus Lindholm was among the favorites and probably the most likely to earn the honor. He’s the next most tenured Bruins player and logs considerable ice time.

But Elias Lindholm and Sean Kuraly, who have worn letters at previous spots and Pavel Zacha and Nikitia Zadorov could have been candidates as well. Goalies are no longer eligible to be official captains.
