The best of the best restaurants in Boston will soon be revealed by a renowned organization that creates international guides rating the world’s top restaurants.
The first-ever Boston Michelin guide will be unveiled at a ceremony at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia on Tuesday evening, Nov. 18. The guides for Philadelphia, New York City, Washington, D.C. and Chicago will also be announced at the ceremony.
“These five cities are home to a rich foundation of culinary history and culture that makes each city stand out for its unique talent and local flavors,” International Director of the Michelin Guide Gwendal Poullennec said in an online press release from August. “Our anonymous Inspectors look forward to sharing their discoveries with the world, including spotlighting eateries in Boston and Philadelphia for the very first time.”
Meet Boston announced in May that The Michelin Guide would rate Boston restaurants for the first time in 2025. The prestigious ranking system — developed to award up to three stars to top eateries — involves anonymous Michelin Guide investigators trying and recommending top restaurants in a specific metropolitan area.
Boston’s Michelin Guide will include restaurants across the city’s 23 neighborhoods, along with Cambridge and Somerville.
The inspectors judge establishments on five criteria: product quality, mastery of cooking techniques, harmony of flavors, the personality of the chef as reflected in the cuisine and consistency over time and across the entire menu.

Stars are awarded to establishments that meet these criteria, and vary based on how accurately they achieve those standards. Chefs and restaurateurs previously told MassLive that Oleana, Sarma, Pammy’s, Neptune Oyster, Prima, KAVA neo-taverna, Source and Bar Mezzana are worthy of a Michelin star.
Restaurants that are not quite worthy of a star get the Bib Gourmand designation. These eateries are often regarded as personal favorites by inspectors when they eat out on their own time, according to Michelin. Additionally, the Michelin Green Star recognizes restaurants that are pioneering sustainable gastronomy.
Following Tuesday’s ceremony, Boston’s Michelin guide will be available online or via the free Michelin Guide app.
