A Boston woman an assault and battery charge after police say she pushed a 63-year-old woman off an MBTA bus.
Around 1 p.m. on Sept. 8, Luz Pineda, 32, and the 63-year-old woman got into a verbal argument over the older woman not getting off the bus to let Pineda out at the MBTA bus stop at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Warren Street, which serves bus routes 14, 19, 23 and 28. The argument turned physical, police said, when Pineda pushed the woman off the bus onto the sidewalk.
The Pineda was with an infant at the time of the assault, according to police.
Surveillance video from the area obtained by WCVB shows a person landing face-first on the sidewalk after being pushed out of the bus. Video from inside the bus posted by the station shows the younger woman appear to push the older woman out of the doorway, then throw a shopping cart onto her.
The woman had a cut on the outer corner of her left eye and blood coming from her head from the fall. Pineda then changed her clothes and hair style after leaving the bus to avoid being identified, officials said.
Pineda was arraigned Thursday in Roxbury BMC before Judge Lisa Ann Grant. She was ordered held on $5,000 bail and will return to court on Oct. 3 for a pre-trial hearing.
Pineda is charged with one count of assault and battery on an elder or disabled person with injury.
“Our public transportation system is a core component of our civic structure and our economy. Incidents like this not only endanger the immediate victims. They hurt us all. I’m grateful for the quick work by transit police and help from the public to identify and arrest this defendant,” Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden said.
