Justin Brazeau became the second Bruins power forward headed out of town in trade deadline week.
About an hour after Boston’s 3-2 loss to Carolina, the team announced a deal with the Minnesota Wild.
Brazeau, who will be a free agent at season’s end, heads to Minnesota for former Bruin Jakub Lauko, 22-year-old forward Marat Khusnutdinov and 2026 sixth-round draft pick that formerly belonged to Boston.
The trade ends a short but memorable ride in Boston for Brazeau, who worked his way up from lightly-regarded prospect to a guy who played minutes on the power play in the playoffs for the Bruins last year.
The 6-foot-6, 27-year-old had 10 goals and 10 assists for Boston this year, mostly early in the season, but his production and role fell off in the second half of the season.
Lauko, who is still just 24, was popular with fans and teammates for his exuberance and willingness to play physical dispute his moderate size (6-foot-1, 193 pounds). In 121 career NHL games with Minnesota and Boston, the former third-round pick has nine goals and 14 assists.
Khusnutdinov is a 5-foot-11, 176-pound forward who has shown limited offensive upside in two seasons with the Wild. The 22-year-old Moscow native has three goals and eight assists in 73 career NHL games. He had two goals and five assists in 57 games this season. He was a second-round pick of the Wild in 2020.
