Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has denounced “outside individuals” responsible for an attack that left a police cruiser on fire in Boston on Sunday morning.
On Sunday morning, two men were arrested when a crowd of 100 people lit a police cruiser on fire using fireworks on the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Tremont Street, according to police.
“The outside individuals who came into our city to cause disorder and brought dangerous behavior here will be prosecuted,” Wu said during a press conference at the Roslindale Parade. “We are asking public’s help for any information to be able to do that as quickly as possible.”
Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox shared that the incident reportedly started in the city of Randolph, but is part of a national problem.
“It’s not a Boston thing, it’s a nationwide thing,” he said.
The commissioner also confirmed that the crowd was gathered to drag race and do donuts with cars.
“Everything that they do is illegal,” he continued. “And so the point is it’s not appropriate, we’re not going to accept it here.”
No officers were hurt during the incident.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact District D-4 Detectives at (617) 343-4683.
