The Minnesota Frost handed the Boston Fleet their first loss of the season on Friday, as a third-period comeback attempt by the Fleet came up short.
In the 5-2 final, the Frost surged ahead to start and were up three goals by the end of the second period.
Although Boston cut it to a one-score game with two back-to-back goals halfway through the third, Minnesota held them off by adding two empty net goals in the final minute.
Five different players scored for the Frost in the win including, Kendall Coyne Schofield, Dominique Petrie, Britta Curl-Salemme, Katy Knoll and Kelly Pannek.
The Fleet’s two goals of the game were by Olivia Mobley and Riley Brengman. The two players scored only 24 seconds apart from each other during the third period.
Minnesota fended off the 29 total shots that came its way, holding the Fleet scoreless for the first two periods as goalkeeper, Nicole Hensley, tallied 27 saves in net.
For Boston, Aerin Frankel had 25 saves between the pipes.
As the Fleet take their first loss of the season, they remain on top of the PWHL standings with their 5-1 record.
Boston now prepares for a road trip to Seattle on Sunday, Dec. 21. Puck drop is set for 5 p.m. against the Torrent.
