The Boston Fleet bolstered their defense on Tuesday night when they selected Haley Winn with the second overall pick in the 2025 PWHL Draft.
Winn was the top-ranked defender coming into the draft.
The 21-year-old wrapped up an impressive collegiate career at Clarkson with 14 goals and 32 assists in 38 games in her senior year. Winn’s accolades include being named the ECAC Rookie of the Month in November 2021. She was also named to the All-ECAC first team, earned the ECAC Player of the Year and ECAC Defender of the Year following the 2024-25 season.
Winn also had success on the international stage when she recorded three points in seven games to help lift Team USA to a gold medal at the 2025 Women’s World Championship. She has two other gold medals (2023 Women’s Worlds, 2020 IIHF World Women’s U18) and two silver medals (2024 Women’s Worlds, 2019 IIHF World Women’s U18 Championship).
The Fleet need to re-tool their roster losing Hilary Knight to PWHL Seattle after Boston elected not to protect its captain ahead of the expansion draft.
Aside from adding plenty of offense from the defensive side, Winn also isn’t afraid to play physical.
